With the release of his first major film, Nausicaä, Miyazaki made his entrance into the world of film-making auteurs. Like many other of his works, such as My Neighbor Totoro, Princess Mononoke, Arrietty, and Spirited Away, his first major film, Nausicaä, features some of Miyazaki's signature film-making traits: a female protagonist, ecological themes, and realistic depictions of nature.
